Introduction Effective and affordable delivery of nutrition education depends on sound training so that knowledge and skills for behaviour change can be communicated to a target audience. This contribution provides suggestions to guide the instructor who trains nutrition educators on planning and implementing in-service training that does this. Nutrition education is based on the sound application of knowledge derived from the food and nutrition sciences about the relationships between diet and health Anderson, The use of educators with training in nutrition allows efficient use of human resources. Such individuals have a science base that encompasses both food and nutritional science upon which they can draw in crafting educational messages. First we discuss some general issues that must be considered when embarking on nutrition education projects, including: We discuss requirements for instruction of the instructors who provide in-service efforts to nutrition educators. We also review what communication skills nutrition educators need to encourage healthful diet-related behaviour changes. We address some other considerations, such as which causes of malnutrition can be remedied by nutrition education interventions. Finally, the institutional arrangements and resources for nutrition education are examined.

We propose a large-scale neural network for resolving pronoun reference that consists of two components. First, a core language network in peri-Sylvian cortex supports syntactic and semantic resources for interpreting pronoun meaning in sentences. In an fMRI study of healthy young adults, we observed activation of left inferior frontal and superior temporal cortex, consistent with a language network.
We also observed activation of brain regions not associated with traditional language areas. They refer to a previously mentioned or acknowledged person during discourse, but pronouns themselves carry little meaning. In this study, we examine the neural basis for the linguistic and decision-making processes that contribute to establishing pronoun reference. A major challenge for models of pronoun resolution is that a pronoun is by nature somewhat ambiguous since the pronoun itself has minimal meaning, and instead its meaning must be derived from a discourse referent.
Consider, for example, the following sentences: The grandmother hugged the uncle. The grandfather hugged the uncle. However, in sentences like 2 gender is not informative because both potential referents are the same gender as the pronoun.

You will agree with me that an important goal of education is to help students learn how to think. Education for problem solving will help students to think more productively by helping them to combine creative thinking skills to generate ideas and critical thinking skills to evaluate ideas. Being able to apply both thinking skills are necessary for becoming a well-rounded and productive thinker.
These are the kind of minds we desperately need in Nigeria and in Africa as a whole. Nigeria is a country replete with problems begging to be solved. Africa is a continent largely underdeveloped and bogged down by problems left unattended.
The Framework offered here is called a framework intentionally because it is based on a a disposition is a tendency to act or think in a particular way. More specifically, a disposition is a cluster of preferences, attitudes, and intentions, as well as a set of capabilities that allow the preferences to become realized in a particular way.
The research community working on matching problems involving preferences has grown in recent years, but even so, plenty of interesting open problems still exist, many with large-scale practical applications. In this talk I will outline some of these open problems that are of an algorithmic flavour, thus giving an outlook on some of the research challenges in matching under preferences that the computer science community might seek to tackle over the next decade.
A critical, yet under-appreciated feature of market design is that centralized markets operate within a broader context; often market designers cannot force participants to join a centralized market. Well-designed centralized markets must induce participants to join voluntarily, in spite of pre-existing decentralized institutions they may already be using.
We take the view that centralizing a market is akin to designing a mechanism to which people may voluntarily sign away their decision rights. We study the ways in which market designers can provide robust incentives that guarantee agents will participate in a centralized market. Our first result is negative and derives from adverse selection concerns.
Near any game with at least one pure strategy equilibrium, we prove there is another game in which no mechanism can eliminate the equilibrium of the original game. In light of this result we offer a new desideratum for mechanism and market design, which we term epsilon-dominant individual rationality.

Economists have treated it in a variety of ways including ignoring it or regarding it as given from outside of economics, making it an endogenous response to relative prices, technological determinism, to making it the outcome of a complex system of cognitive habits and fads, power struggles, institutions and expected payoffs.

Abstract Childhood maltreatment has lasting negative effects throughout the lifespan. Early intervention research has demonstrated that these effects can be remediated through skill-based, family-centered interventions. However, less is known about plasticity during adolescence, and whether interventions are effective many years after children experience maltreatment.
Girls in the SAU condition demonstrated the greatest decision-making difficulties, primarily for risks to avoid losses. In the SAU group, frequency of neglect was related to greater difficulties in this area. Girls in the intervention condition with less neglect performed similarly to non-maltreated peers. This research suggests that early maltreatment may impact decision-making abilities into adolescence and that enriched environments during early adolescence provide a window of plasticity that may ameliorate these negative effects.
Adolescents who have been involved in the child welfare system due to maltreatment are a particularly vulnerable population for engaging in such risk-taking behaviors Garland et al. Overall, these youth have elevated rates, and earlier initiation, of delinquent acts, participation in HIV-risk behaviors e.

They are not going to think any time soon. They may increasingly do more interesting things, but the idea that we need to worry about them, regulate them, or grant them civil rights, is just plain silly. The over promising of “expert systems” in the s killed off serious funding for the kind of AI that tries to build virtual humans. Very few people are working in this area today. But, according to the media, we must be very afraid.

SHARE Although studying creativity is considered a legitimate scientific discipline nowadays, it is still a very young one. In the early s, a psychologist named J. Guilford was one of the first academic researchers who dared to conduct a study of creativity. He challenged research subjects to connect all nine dots using just four straight lines without lifting their pencils from the page.
Today many people are familiar with this puzzle and its solution. In the s, however, very few were even aware of its existence, even though it had been around for almost a century. If you have tried solving this puzzle, you can confirm that your first attempts usually involve sketching lines inside the imaginary square. The correct solution, however, requires you to draw lines that extend beyond the area defined by the dots.
Only 20 percent managed to break out of the illusory confinement and continue their lines in the white space surrounding the dots. The symmetry, the beautiful simplicity of the solution, and the fact that 80 percent of the participants were effectively blinded by the boundaries of the square led Guilford and the readers of his books to leap to the sweeping conclusion that creativity requires you to go outside the box.

For current news and resources see the Framework WordPress site Introduction This Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education Framework grows out of a belief that information literacy as an educational reform movement will realize its potential only through a richer, more complex set of core ideas. During the fifteen years since the publication of the Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education,1 academic librarians and their partners in higher education associations have developed learning outcomes, tools, and resources that some institutions have deployed to infuse information literacy concepts and skills into their curricula.
However, the rapidly changing higher education environment, along with the dynamic and often uncertain information ecosystem in which all of us work and live, require new attention to be focused on foundational ideas about that ecosystem. Students have a greater role and responsibility in creating new knowledge, in understanding the contours and the changing dynamics of the world of information, and in using information, data, and scholarship ethically.

The cool white fluorescent tube is the light source of choice for most designers of interior spaces. Fluorescent light is cheap, efficient and long-lasting and the tubes are available in a wide array of styles and choices, from the common cool white fluorescent tube K and K to specialty tubes such as plant growth tubes and actinic tubes for aquarium lighting. Most schools are lit with cool white fluorescent tubes as well, owing to the qualities of economy and long life afforded by them. However, recent studies in cellular activity of the human retina indicate cool white tubes should probably not be considered as a good lighting source for persons with eye disease or eye injury.
When the eye is healthy and carrying on the process of photoreception, each photoreceptor in the retina does one unit of work for each peak in a wavelength of light which strikes it. In the diseased or injured eye, the natural system of waste disposal is often compromised. For the person suffering from diseased or injured eyes, it is more than unpleasant, it can be extremely painful and it can last a very long time after the source of light is removed.
How does cool white light, or light with an output in the predominantly blue portion of the spectrum exacerbate glare?
